As humans, we are limited with our understanding of the ease of leaving the physical body. With our personal reservations and our grief at losing our beloved pet, we can inadvertently hold them back from their final exit.
One way I can be of help is to facilitate a three-way conversation between the owner and pet, taking care of last minute issues, making sure the pet is ready and willing to go. When I am there to convey the love the client has for their pet all things become easier. Talking about regrets and guilt can help free up the relationship to a higher level. Going over all the what-ifs of medical care can be helpful too.
I can also talk with the pet owner about practical concerns - letting nature take it's course vs having a vet help with euthanasia. How do we go about burying a horse? Having a large dog cremated? Burying a small animal when we are renting a home? How to create a beautiful ritual when saying goodbye? These and other questions can be brought to the table and looked at in many different ways, depending on the beliefs of the owners.
Another way I can be of service is to give a final Reiki session (or more) to the animal. I actually attune/initiate the animal to the highest level of Reiki to help them energetically raise their vibration. This, in turn, can either help with healing, prolong life as long as it is for their highest good or help them to vibrate fast enough to exit their bodies in an easy and graceful manner.
Even after the fact of the beloved pet passing, clients have me come over to talk with the pet in spirit. (We can do this on-line or by phone also) Spending time looking at pictures, asking what the client/pet agreement in this lifetime was about, discussing the pets attachment to the other members of the household.
At times, passed on relatives come in for the session and we talk with them also. Knowing that the pet has a loved relative waiting for them can be comforting. All these things and more can help the client have closure and work through their grief. Sometimes the pet will take on their sadness while in spirit and we can cleanse that also, enabling the pet to move on to their next adventure.
Animals can pass in such a beautiful and sparkling manner that it is a joy to connect and converse with them. I can convey this to the owner so they can be content with the fact that their pet is not only at peace but having a darn good time too!
Then the icing on the cake - at times we get a peek at the next one in line!
